Japan Society NY: Chiharu Shiota Exhibition Opening Reception Sept. 11, 2025
AWAA is proud to partner with Japan Society New York to feature two AWAA Member Wineries at an opening reception of their fall exhibition, Chiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries.

Curated by Dr. Michele Bambling, Japan Society Gallery Director, the exhibition features Diary (2025), a site-specific installation that commemorates the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. This profound meditation on memory, national identity, and the human cost of war is placed in conversation with a provocative selection of Shiota’s other multimedia works.
The reception follows the world premiere of KINKAKUJI (The Temple of the Golden Pavilion) at 7:00 PM, a theatrical production commissioned by Japan Society and featuring Shiota’s innovative stage design, presented to American audiences for the first time.
